ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that women are essential to the nation’s socioeconomic development.
According to him, every Pakistani woman is entitled to all fundamental rights under the constitution. He added that economic policies that prioritize women would guarantee women’s empowerment throughout the nation. These opinions were shared by him when he met Sharmeela Rasool, the country representative for UN Women, at Parliament House. Ashraf emphasized the importance of giving all women access to economic, medical, and educational opportunities. He declared that CNIC was the fundamental identity right and that he would meet with NADRA’s chairman to remove all barriers to issuing CNIC to women, particularly those who were from remote areas. Wajiha Qamar, a member of National Assembly was also present.
She said Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) was playing an important role in ensuring women-friendly legislation.
She also said the WPC would issue a consensus-based Manifesto for ensuring the provision of basic fundamental rights to all women.
The UN Women’s country representative appreciated the NA speaker’s vision for ensuring women-inclusive policies.
She also appreciated the role played by WPC for ensuring women-friendly legislation.
She said the UN in Pakistan would keep on supporting Pakistani women specifically in the domain of employment and economic independence.
