On Wednesday, Qazi Faez Isa, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), declared that he would not stand for “any attack” on the independence of the judiciary. He also made a suggestion that a full court would be assembled to consider a suo motu case concerning claims of meddling in judicial matters.
He said this as the Supreme Court heard arguments related to accusations made by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) about meddling in court proceedings by the nation’s security apparatus.
The hearing was televised live on the SC’s website and YouTube channel, with CJP Isa and justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Yahya Afridi, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Athar Minallah, Musarrat Hilali, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan presiding over the seven-member bench.
