Concerned over the detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, the US State Department has urged the South Asian country to maintain democratic values and human rights.
“Reports of PTI leaders being arrested have been seen by us. Speaking during a press conference in Washington, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “We are always concerned when we see arrests of opposition leaders.”
The response from Washington takes place in the context of PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan’s detention for reportedly being in charge of a digital media unit that disseminated false information about Pakistan and its integrity.
Hasan, a well-known PTI figure, was arrested on Monday by Islamabad Police from the party’s Central Secretariat in the nation’s capital and turned over to the FBI.
