University at PM house offers no degrees

Last week, we celebrated the establishment of university at the prime minister house and this won over the hearts of millions of voters once again. Earlier, hearts were win over by seeing captain delivering a motivational speech while it was raining cats and dogs. The setup of a university at prime minister house was true depiction of government’s resolve for improved literacy rate and it reiterated the interventions for educational reforms. This had given a reason of hope among the already devastated ordinary citizens with the burden of inflated bills and necessities’ prices. It appeared that now an ordinary citizen, any bright student would be able to study at a palace to which only rulers of the country were entitled to spend their nights and days, eating lavish food and host feasts for the big wigs.
Those who were dreaming to enter the prime minister house as a student any day, to roam around during off periods at the boulevard next to supreme court and the president house, their bubble has just burst. The university that prime minister inaugurated last week is not a university and there are no plans to start degree programs. Without getting chartered by Higher Education Commission, they can never offer a degree program. In addition to that, PTI shall need to bring the case in parliament and in the senate where they have lesser votes to go forward with the university plan but as reported the government is planning to set it up as a think tank unit. The said unit shall facilitate the government in policy making through research and advisory functions, which is again very positive on part of the government. Although the actual dilemma is the government touted this program otherwise, they made it appear like a university which it is not. It’s time for the government to stop these manipulating such initiatives for options. In the previous couple of months, Railways Minister started new trains, rather started new routes without prior checkup while the narrative built by PTI was it has started ‘new trains’. Some of these actions have proved fatal, government has to act mature and save itself from embarrassment and save people from further depression.
