Lahore: The newly appointed British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, met Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rahman here today at the Governor’s House, Lahore. In the meeting, issues of mutual interest, trade and climate change were discussed in detail.
Speaking on this occasion, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that UK is Pakistan’s most important trade partner in Europe. He said that Pakistan’s inclusion in the UK Preferential Trade Scheme is a welcome move, and this will give further boost to bilateral trade. Governor Punjab said that there are vast opportunities for British investors to invest in textile and agriculture sector in Pakistan. He said that Pakistan has been greatly affected by climate change, adding that last year different parts of country were hit by devastating flash floods due to climate change.
He said that climate change is having a bad effect on Pakistan’s agriculture as well. Governor Punjab said that he is grateful for the British government’s assistance to the flood victims and appreciates British cooperation in the field of education. Governor Punjab further said that the government believes in giving equal rights to all minorities according to the constitution of Pakistan. On this occasion, Governor Punjab presented a souvenir to the Bristish High Commissioner.
On this occasion, the newly appointed British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said that Britain attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan. She said that Britain is committed to further promote bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in various fields including trade and investment.
Later, a delegation of Anjuman Tajran led by President Anjuman Tajran and member Lahore Chamber, Mujahid Maqsood Butt, met Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman at Governor House Lahore. During the meeting, the delegation briefed Governor Punjab about the problems faced by the business community and markets.
Speaking on this occasion, Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman said that the business community is not only playing an important role in the development of the country by paying taxes, but it is also a source of employment for many families. He said that business and industrial development bolster the economy. Governor Punjab said that the government is trying hard to strengthen the country’s economy and promote industry and trade. He said that contribution of business community in philanthropy and welfare work is also praise worthy.
He said that everyone should play a role in the development of the country.
President of Anjuman i Tajran, and member of the Lahore Chamber Mujahid Maqsood Butt said that the Governor of Punjab is playing the role of a bridge to solve the problems of the traders community. He said that the Punjab Governor has always supported the business community. On this occasion, President of Anjuman Tajran Mujahid Maqsood Butt presented the shield to Governor Punjab Balighur Rehman on behalf of Anjuman Tajran. The delegation also invited Governor Punjab to visit the markets.
