Top lawyers bodies express distrust in holding fair polls

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Pakistan Bar  Council (PBC), two of the nation’s leading legal organisations, have voiced misgivings about Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)  Sikander Sultan Raja’s ability to conduct free and fair elections on  February of next year. PBC Vice-Chairman Haroon-ur-Rashid and Chairman of the Executive Committee Hassan Raza  Pasha stressed in statement on Tuesday how important it is that  the general elections on February 8, 2024, go forward as scheduled. They highlight how important it is to give equal opportunities and  level playing field to all political parties and independent  candidates in order to ensure transparency and fairness in the  electoral process. While voicing their grave concerns about the CEC’s behaviour with  relation to seat distribution, delimitations, and election processes.
