The Eternal Echoes of Karbala and the Call for Justice Today

“Those who are silent when others are oppressed are guilty of oppression themselves.” – Imam Hussain (R.A)

Remaining silent in the face of injustice is a form of complicity. Killing people because of their religion is the ultimate act of cruelty. From the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to the innocent souls in Gaza who have been brutally wiped out from their land, how long will this continue? Regardless of even conflicts, how can one justify taking a life? Are they so hardened and heartless? Celebrating the suffering and death of innocents is inhumane. Whether it’s a Muslim or a Hindu, killing someone because of their religion goes against the principles of humanity. What religion can you truly follow if you lack basic human compassion?

On the solemn day of 9th Moharram, we remember and condemn one of the most heart-wrenching tragedies of Islamic history—Wakiya e Karbala. The unimaginable cruelty inflicted upon the family of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Yazeed’s forces continues to reverberate through the centuries, reminding us of the price of tyranny and the courage of those lion-hearted heroes of Islam, who stood against it.

Karbala stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and ultimate sacrifice of Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Prophet (PBUH), and his family and companions. They faced insurmountable odds with courage and dignity, choosing martyrdom over submission to oppression. This historic event, filled with profound lessons, calls upon us to stand against injustice and cruelty in our times.

As we reflect on Wakiya e Karbala, we cannot ignore the parallels in today’s world, particularly the ongoing suffering in Palestine. The relentless and brutal aggression by Israel has led to unimaginable loss and devastation. Palestinian communities have been wiped out, and countless innocent lives have been lost. People with even a trace of humanity in their hearts weep, witnessing the dire situation unfold. Making prayers for them and supporting with donations underway. Yet, hearts break with each new report of daily deaths from there.

Muslim countries, and indeed all nations committed to justice and human rights, must overcome their constraints and take decisive action, at least now. It is crucial to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and to take concrete steps to alleviate their suffering. Let us not be cowards; instead, let us learn from our heroic ancestors, beloved family members of our Prophet (PBUH), who stood steadfast against tyranny without yielding to fear. Let us unite and fight for our Palestine, for Gaza, honouring their legacy and striving for justice.

In honouring the legacy of Karbala, let us strive to create a world where justice, compassion, and peace reign supreme. Let us remember that the struggle against oppression is ongoing and that we all have a role to play in championing the cause of the persecuted. On this 9th Moharram, may the spirit of Karbala inspire us to work tirelessly for a world where every individual can live fearlessly and with dignity on their land.
