The importance of dialogue and discourse as a source of knowledge is well-established and has
been recognized since ancient times. For example, Plato's education in Greece placed great
emphasis on this concept. In today's modern world, the significance of dialogue and discourse
remains undiminished. Pakistan, as a developing country, should prioritize policies that
promote the culture of dialogue and discourse. Educational institutions play a crucial role in this
regard, as they provide an environment that drives social, economic, and sustainable
development. The Islamia University Bahawalpur, in southern Punjab, has made significant
contributions to this goal. The university attracts students from across Pakistan, including
Sindh, KPK, Baluchistan, and Punjab, and provides them with a non-discriminatory educational
environment. Seminars, symposiums, conferences, and workshops are regularly held at the
university to stimulate the minds of students and staff and encourage their growth as leaders
and researchers. These activities are greatly supported by Professor Dr. Irshad Husain's dynamic
leadership and guidance. The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Professor Dr. Ather Mehboob, also plays an
important role in promoting research and educational training at the university.
The Educational Training department serves as the backbone of the teaching and learning
process at the university. Through its efforts, it helps to develop the pedagogical skills and
competencies of teachers, leading to increased excellence in education. The department has
also made substantial contributions to research and knowledge, earning recognition both
domestically and abroad. The chairman of the department, Professor Dr. Hafiz Muhammad
Ather, is highly dedicated to the progress and success of students and staff, fostering a strong
interest in educational research and providing guidance and support to those seeking a quality
education. Recently, the Higher Education International Conference (HEIC-2023) was held with
the theme of "Reshaping Higher Education for a Sustainable Future." On February 7th and 8th,
2023, renowned education researchers from Pakistan and abroad participated in the
conference, sharing their views and ideas on educational research. This conference will
undoubtedly be remembered as a landmark event in shaping the future of research. Finally,
credit must also be given to Professor Dr. Muhammad Shaker, who has shown great aptitude in
fostering research potential in his students. His efforts in managing and convening the HEIC-
2023 conference will open new avenues for researchers. In conclusion, the Higher Education
International Conference (HEIC-2023) is a testament to the significance of dialogue and
discourse as a source of knowledge, and the important role that education institutions play in
fostering this culture. The conference provides a platform for education researchers to share
their ideas and contribute to the advancement of the field.
