Tesla recalls about half a million electric cars

The U.S. Road Safety Regulator said Thursday that Tesla is recalling more than 475,000 of its Model 3 and Model S electric cars to address rear view camera and trunk problems that increase the risk of an accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is discussing another camera issue with the automaker, while investigating the company’s driver assistant system.

The models were hit by a recall from 2014 to 2021, and the total number of recalled vehicles is about half the million vehicles Tesla provided last year.

The federal regulator said the US electric vehicle maker is recalling 356,309 2017-2020 Model 3 vehicles and 119,009 Model S vehicles due to front hood issues to address rear view camera issues.

For the Model 3 sedan, the NHTSA stated that “the rear view camera cable harness may be damaged by opening and closing the trunk lid, thus preventing the rear view camera image from appearing.” Said

Tesla identified 2,301 warranty claims and 601 field reports related to the U.S. vehicle issue.

The company said that for Model S vehicles, leach problems could “open the front trunk without warning and impede driver’s visibility, increasing the risk of an accident.

Tesla said it was not aware of any accidents, injuries or deaths related to the issues cited in the recall of the Model 3 and Model S cars, the NHTSA said.

Tesla shares fell 3% in the morning, but rebounded and traded slightly higher for the last time, around $ 1,088.76. The world’s most valued automaker is expected to post record quarterly vehicle deliveries as early as Saturday.
