ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to call a special session of the National Assembly for Thursday night. The President has received a summary requesting that the lower house meet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday (today). This is the last meeting of the departing National Assembly, whose five-year tenure ends on August 13. Media reports state that the most important piece of legislation to be approved by the current lower house will be changes to the Election Act of 2017 and electoral reforms. Additionally, it would feature farewell remarks from the assembly members and group photos.
The heads of parliamentary parties and leader of the opposition Raja Riaz are also expected to address the session. People’s Party, the ruling party in Sindh, has reached to an understanding with the federal government to dissolve the provincial legislature along with the National Assembly.
