Speakers stress need for promoting organic farming in country

Director Information Mian Naeem Asim, farmers, faculty members and students participated in large numbers. The speakers shed light on the scope, possibilities and challenges of promoting organic farming in Pakistan. Professor Dr. Gerald Rehman while addressing the seminar said that to ensure safe and healthy food for future generations, organic agriculture should be promoted. This will also create opportunities for exports in Europe. The purpose of organizing seminars in Pakistan is to provide training and awareness in such areas. But there is a lack of organic management. Which is an easy method of cultivation, the farmers and the young generation are being given training and awareness about seeds, fertilizers, best performance irrigation system, supply chain, marketing and prevailing organic farming techniques. Awareness and sensitization has to be created among the farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. He added that at least progressive farmers can grow organic vegetables and fruits on their farms as a model for themselves. Which will spread more awareness about organic farming in the area? And it will be possible to have safe food and healthy food for our future generations. Senior scientist Dr. Daniel Bernhard Neuhof while addressing the seminar said that the development and implementation of National Organic Agriculture Program, laws, regulations, framework, and labeling and certification body in collaboration with stakeholders in Pakistan is inevitable. During the visit to Pakistan and after meeting in various institutions, we have realized that there is immense potential for organic farming in this country.
