Shahid Khaqan Abbasi launches new political party

On Monday, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi formally announced his departure from the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) by forming his own political party with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Abbasi went in person to the Election Commission’s Islamabad headquarters and gave all the information required for his party to be registered. He attested to having sent the election regulator all necessary paperwork.

Abbasi stated that his political party’s name is still pending during his interview with the media. He did, however, reaffirm his intention to run for office in the next general election using his new political organization’s name.
