The country’s persistently poor internet speed has been brought to the attention of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, which has ordered relevant authorities to address the problem within two weeks. The committee further demanded a thorough report on the monetary damages brought on by the internet outage.
The committee meeting, which was presided over by Senator Palusha Khan, focused on the numerous disruptions to social media and internet app services and how these have affected businesses greatly.
Senator Afnanullah Khan calculated the financial loss at an astounding 500 million, while Senator Humayun Mohmand noted that the slow internet and social media apps had negatively impacted corporate operations.
The committee was notified by the IT Secretary that a technical problem with the services provided by mobile providers was the cause of the disruption.
