Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani Holds Fruitful Meeting with Iranian President

The Honourable Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani welcomed the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, and his esteemed delegation to Pakistan, underscoring the paramount importance of high-level engagements in advancing regional cooperation and bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Chairman Senate Gillani highlighted the deep historical ties between his family and Iran, tracing back to his ancestor, Hazrat Ghaus ul Azam, and reiterated the personal significance of his past visits to Iran in which he emphasized the importance of bilateral dialogue in strengthening relations between the two nations. He said that Iran was the first country to recognize Pakistan in 1947 and this further adds strength to our ties.

Chairman Senate Gillani praised the robust bilateral relationships based on shared values and cultural heritage, which form the cornerstone of foreign policy and promote peace and prosperity in the region, while reiterating the long-lasting cordial relations between Pakistan and Iran.

Chairman Senate Gillani reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary collaboration and emphasised the importance of increased inter-parliamentary engagements and exchange programmes designed to support the skills and knowledge of parliamentary staff.

Chairman of the Senate expressed gratitude to Iran for its ongoing support of the legitimate cause of the Kashmiri people and expressed worry about the recent events in Indian-occupied Kashmir, emphasising the unstable situation.

Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani emphasised the potential for improved connectivity and cooperation while highlighting prospects in a variety of industries that might be advantageous to both nations.

In order to preserve peace and stability in the region, both presidents emphasised the value of working together to address issues related to border security and counterterrorism. They also reaffirmed their commitment to communication and collaboration. The Chairman of the Senate also emphasised the importance of advancing educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries, encouraging mutual understanding and goodwill among the populace, and looking into potential partnerships in the fields of science, technology, and education.
