SC’s ad hoc judges take oath

The ad hoc judges of Pakistan’s Supreme Court (SC), Justices Sardar Tariq Masood and Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, took an oath of office on Monday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Qazi Faez Isa delivered the oath in front of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, as well as other law enforcement officials, attorneys, and court employees.
Both judges have held positions on Pakistan’s Supreme Court in the past. The Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s Constitution, Article 182, governs their appointment.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) this week approved the nomination of two retired Supreme Court justices to serve as ad hoc judges of the highest court for a one-year term, despite strong protest.
