The Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision to declare a recount of ballots in three National Assembly constituencies, in which Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidates had prevailed, was overruled by the Supreme Court.
On the pleas submitted by the PML-N leaders, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa rendered the reserved ruling by a majority of 2-1.
The top court’s Justice Aqeel Abbasi disagreed with the ruling that supported PML-N candidates Zulfikar Ahmed, Abdul Rehman Kanju, and Azhar Qayyum Nahra.
According to me, there are no factual errors or legal flaws in the contested judgements or decisions issued by the LHC in the aforementioned Writ Petitions, hence this Court is not required to intervene in accordance with Article 185(3) of the Constitution.
