Islamabad: Former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was given a death sentence in 1979; Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa expressed sorrow on Tuesday for the delay in setting up a presidential reference to seek the Supreme Court’s judgement on the matter, adding it “merits determination.” He said, “This is the oldest presidential reference that is still pending.” As the nine-member higher bench of the supreme court recommenced deliberations on the protracted reference, the top judge made these statements. Live coverage of the case hearings was provided. The larger bench, which was presided over by Chief Justice Isa, was made up of Justices Sardar Tariq Masood, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Yahya Afridi, Amin-ud-din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Musarrat Hilali.
