SC forms larger bench to hear SIC reserved seats case

In order to hear the matter pertaining to the distribution of reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), the Supreme Court assembled a larger bench. On June 3, a 13-judge panel led by Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Qazi Faez Isa, will hear the case.

Every member of the top court judges’ bench will be there, with the exception of Justice Musarrat Hilali, who is ailing. The Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to allot SIC’s reserved seats to other parties was halted earlier in May by the supreme court.

Throughout the proceedings, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah made the comment that the people’s mandate ought to be appropriately represented in parliament. The Judges Committee was tasked by the court with deciding whether or not to hear the reserved seat matter.
