ISLAMABAD : The Supreme Court has disposed of PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz’s petition against his election rival declaring it ineffective.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial heard the petition filed by PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz against his opponent election contender Tariq Anees on Monday.
Aziz’s lawyer told the court that Anees lost elections both in 2013 and 2018.
The CJP remarked that a man who was rejected twice by the people, what more punishment did he deserve! What you would gain by declaring an already defeated person deceitful, the CJP wondered.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked that 13 years had gone by and the court awards a punishment for only five years. And if he had been found guilty, his punishment of five years would have been ended by now, he added.
With this, the apex court disposed of the petition while declaring it ineffective.
Daniyal Aziz had submitted a plea in 2008 against Tariq Anees for using corrupt tactics to rig the polls.
