Bahawalpur: Department of Educational Training, Islamia University, Bahawalpur organized a
two-day Higher Education International Conference. The quality of teaching and research in
achieving the 17 goals of sustainable development was discussed in this conference held on the
topic of the role of higher education in the goals of sustainable development. Inaugurating the
conference, Vice Chancellor, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar
Mahboob said that the participation of local and foreign experts in the conference organized on
this most important topic will help in the implementation of long-term development goals in
higher educational institutions. He said that the strengthening of higher education institutions
is very important for social development and regional and international integration. University
faculty and researchers can offer solutions to pressing issues through collaboration with civil
society, industrial and commercial organizations, other sectors and the general public. He said
that various universities have included SDG's in their institutional policy. A sustainable and
environmentally friendly green campus is very important for a university and its surrounding
society and universities can play a positive role in society by implementing it. Dean Faculty of
Education Prof. Dr. Irshad Hussain said that the purpose of this conference was necessary for
the implementation of sustainable development goals given by the United Nations. In this
regard, experts presented research papers on related topics and exchanged observations and
experiences with each other. The recommendations obtained in the conference will be
conveyed to the policy makers. Dean Faculty of Distance Education Prof. Dr. Akhtar Ali said that
in light on the distance education system in the promotion of higher education. Dr. Hafiz
Muhammad Athar Khan Chairman Educational Training Department welcomed the delegates to
the conference.
