Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of Law and Justice, stated on Thursday that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reforms were the top priority of the current government in order to overcome the economic crisis, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision. Speaking at a press conference held here, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that he is spearheading the entire reform effort in this regard.
The minister emphasised that tax matters that involve the recovery of over Rs. 2,700 billions are presently pending in court and had to be resolved quickly. He claimed that in an effort to streamline the procedure and increase its effectiveness, the parliament had for the first time passed legislation pertaining to tax tribunals.
