Railways launches month-long tree plantation, cleanliness drive

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed launched a month-long special drive on Friday for “Clean Green and Courteous Railways”.

Addressing the launching ceremony at Rawalpindi Railway Station, the minister said he will himself oversee the campaign to ensure its success across the country.

He said that he will travel to Lahore, Faisalabad, Narowal, Sialkot, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta during the campaign that would focus on cleanness at all Railways stations and platforms.

He said tree plantation will also be ensured along the railway tracks to advance Prime Minister’s vision of a “Clean and Green Pakistan”.

He claimed that he will transform the national railways into an “efficient, modern and profit earning public service utility” and the ticketing system will be further improved showing zero tolerance towards ticketless travelers.

Further, he asserted that a tracker system will soon be installed in trains to enable the citizens to track the timings of trains through their mobile phone devices and the salaries of Railways Police will be enhanced to be equal to that of Punjab police.
