Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), strongly criticized the “fascist approach” of the PDM-led government on Saturday for treating the members and leaders of his party who were detained during the “Jail Bharo Tehreek” (court arrest movement) like terrorists.
The movement seeks to combat the incumbent government’s “attack on constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights” and the “economic meltdown,” according to the PTI’s justification. On February 22, the movement for court arrests began. On the first day of the campaign, the party’s senior leaders—including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, and Azam Swati—along with party members voluntarily turned themselves in to the Lahore police. Later, some of the other party members did the same. Khan asserted in the tweet that the leaders and members of his party are protesting fascism, the infringement of fundamental rights, and the dismantling of the country. It is important to note that the PTI’s court arrest movement in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is regarded as a stronghold for the party, ended with no detention.
