The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday ruled that the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to withdraw the PTI’s “bat” electoral emblem and reject its intra-party polling was “illegal,” providing a significant reprieve ahead of the general elections on February 8. The PHC said that the ECP ruling was “illegal, without any lawful authority and of no legal effect” in a brief order, a copy of which is accessible to the media. The PTI was ordered by the court to post on its website the certificate that the PTI filed after conducting internal polling. In accordance with Sections 215 and 217 read in conjunction with any other enabling provision of the Election Act, 2017 and Election Rules, 2017, it is further held and declared that the PTI is entitled to the election symbol.
