Need for Commencement of Project on Zebra Crossing
The Chief Minister Punjab has a tremendous and successful track record of completing social welfare projects particularly in transportation, infrastructure and communication along with projects in health and other sectors. The people of Punjab province are also well aware that Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has become famous for his well-designed public projects to facilitate incapacitated people and low income class and to reduce their cost of life.
Therefore I am convinced to commence the project on Zebra Crossing on extremely urgent basis starting from Lahore and then to spread over all metropolitan cities of Punjab. A pedestrian crossing or crosswalk is a place designated for pedestrians to cross a road.
Crosswalks are designed to keep pedestrians together where they can be seen by motorists, and where they can cross most safely across the flow of road traffic.
Upon designated Zebra Crossings the Vehicles must stop and remained stopped to allow pedestrians to cross the roadway when a pedestrian crossing within a marked crosswalk or unmarked crosswalk.
When Is a Pedestrian Protected?
According to the rules, the only time a pedestrian technically has the right of way when crossing a road is when they are crossing at a designated marked or unmarked crosswalk. In these situations, vehicle traffic must yield to the pedestrian if they are within their half of the road or are walking toward their half (half the roadway.
Frequent Pedestrians Casualties in Lahore have alarmingly increased and request to Govt. of Punjab for Immediate Commencement of the project on Zebra Crossing.
I would plead to the Govt. of Punjab that since the frequency of pedestrians accidents while crossing the roads have terrifyingly increased over the years,
I would request the Chief Minister Punjab and Governor of Punjab that they may very graciously consider to initiate a big project on Zebra Crossing starting from metropolitan city of Lahore and then spreading over to all big cities of Punjab. It will not only allow the pedestrians to safely cross the roads but it will largely secure the life of women, children and elder people while crossing the roads.
I dare to narrate that during my stay over UK, I very conscientiously observed the strict follow up of Zebra Crossing resulting into a very nominal road incidents unlike Pakistan.
Even a pedestrian puts his half foot inside the road, all would remained stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross the road.
Concluding Remarks:
A massive people from Punjab Province will pray for the Govt. of Punjab and greatly applaud imperative services for humanity and colossal life security of people of our beloved country.
