In order to prevent the banking industry from extending any banking or financial facilities to proven fraudulent personnel, President Dr. Arif Alvi has instructed the Banking Mohtasib to investigate banking frauds and bring up the issue with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). This will allow the SBP to issue the necessary standard operating procedures (SOPs) and place the fraudulent personnel’s CNICs on a blacklist or central negative list. President Secretariat Press Wing stated in a press release on Sunday that the president issued these directives while rejecting two separate representations submitted by United Bank Ltd (UBL) and Bank Alfalah Ltd (BAL) directing the banks to pay Rs 1.9 million and Rs 0.744 million, respectively, to their customers who were victims of online banking fraud at the hands of fraudsters.
