ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman, the federal minister for climate change, stated on Sunday that it was likely that the upcoming monsoon rains would lessen the current extreme heatwave. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s advisory, the country was expected to experience pre-monsoon rains from June 25 to June 30. Between June 25 and June 30, Senator Rehman predicted that Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would all experience strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain. Between June 26 and June 29, various cities in Balochistan, South Punjab, and Sindh were likely to experience wind, thunder, and heavy rain due to the influence of this system, she added.
In case of heavy rains, she said there was a risk of urban flooding in urban areas while floods and landslides were feared in hilly areas.
All concerned and local bodies have been instructed to be alert and tourists to be cautious, she added.
The Minister urged that citizens were requested to stay away from weak infrastructure, electric poles, and rivers during strong winds and rains to avoid any untoward incident.
