Lahore: Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president and chief organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), stated that “politics on the sacred days of minorities is against democracy and a disrespect to minorities.”

She stated that today (Wednesday) was the first day of fasting for Christians and that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was launching its Jail Bharo Tehreek (court arrest movement) on this day. She was presiding over a meeting of the PML-N Minorities Wing. She claimed that President Arif Alvi had set the election for April 9, which fell on Easter Sunday for the Christian community. According to her, minorities in Pakistan should be respected because they are full citizens. On the first day of their fast, she sent her best wishes to the Christian community.

She asserted that minorities contributed fully to the founding, protection, and development of the nation. She acknowledged the struggles faced by minorities in the areas of health, education, and services, saying that the PML-N has always valued their contributions to the cause of the country. According to the PML-N leader, Muslims’ faith includes the protection of minorities’ rights. Minorities were given the assurance by Maryam Nawaz that she would be there whenever and wherever they invited her to participate in their festive occasions, such as Easter, Holi, or any religious events at the Kartarpur Corridor. She added that women and minorities’ youth would be given more opportunities in politics and that the PML-N would advance minorities in the political system.
