Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for the unrest that erupted in the nation following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case and threatened to take strict action against “state’s enemies”.
The prime minister warned that if “miscreants” continued their “anti-state activities,” they would be dealt with harshly. He said that “terrorists and elements who are enemies of the state” should stop right away. “They’ll receive an example-setting punishment.” The premier declared that “we will not permit anyone to conspire against the protection of the state and ideology of Pakistan, which is more precious to us than our lives.” Nor will we allow their evil plans to come to fruition, he continued.
The “real role” and duty of political leadership, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is to prevent their employees from crossing legal lines while being arrested. “As political workers, we are unable to express joy upon any arrest.
We have indeed passed through a bitter period of life, he said. However, he claimed that through their actions following the former premier’s arrest, the PTI and party leader Imran Khan had committed the “unforgivable crime” of enmity against the state. According to PM Shehbaz, “all evidence” in the AL-Qadir Trust case against PTI Chairman Imran Khan is in place.
He said the National Accountability Bureau is conducting the investigation on the basis of the evidence and questioned how the PTI cabinet was kept “completely in the dark” about the matter.
“How could it be the decision of the cabinet when the matter is of Rs60 billion of the national treasury?”
He said under the old accountability law any person could be “picked up” for 90 days and getting bail was “impossible”.
“But we amended this law and reduced the remand period from 90 to 15 days”
PM Shehbaz termed damaging public property an “act of terrorism” and “enmity” towards the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that federal ministers used to air details of cases against political opponents during the PTI tenure and former premier Imran Khan used to predict arrests.
“Not only political opponents but family and relatives were not forgiven too,” PM Shehbaz said.
The prime minister began his address by saying that Pakistan’s political history had been “very bitter”.
He added that never had revengeful acts in politics rendered good results.
