KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the groundbreaking of the Mohmand dam in the first week of January, said Federal Water Resources Minister Faisal Vawda on Wednesday.
The federal minister announced that the dam will produce 800 megawatts of electricity and 17,000 acres of land will be irrigated.
Meanwhile, Chairman Water and Power Development Authority Muzzamil Hussain said that the dam will be completed in less than five years.
Within the next five to six months, work will begin on Diamer-Bhasha dam, said Hussain.
In July, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the immediate construction of Bhasha and Mohmand dams.
The SC under Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case related to scarcity of water and construction of new dams.
In the court order, it was said that the water resources were pertinent not only for human lives but for the country’s stability.
