Ambassador of Yemen Mohammed Mohatar Alashabi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday.
According to sources, the Yemeni ambassador and PM Imran discussed relations between Pakistan and Yemen along with the peace process in the Middle-East.

During the meeting, PM Imran said Pakistan wants a peaceful and an acceptable solution to the war, sources said.

According to the sources, the prime minister told the ambassador that if all stakeholders are in agreement then Pakistan can play the role of a mediator in the Yemen peace process.

In his address to the nation on October 24, PM Imran had said Pakistan would act as a mediator in the war between the Houthi rebels and Saudi-led alliance in Yemen.

He had said he would try to get Muslim countries together, besides acting as a “mediator” in the resolution of conflicts between Muslim countries.

“We are trying our best to act as a mediator to resolve the Yemen crisis,” the prime minister had said.

On the other side, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday stated that Saudis had awarded bailout package without any condition.

While addressing session of Senate, Shah warned members of both treasury and opposition benches that tensions in Middle East could affect Islamabad.

“It is because of Pakistan’s decision to remain neutral that it got encouragement from both [Saudi Arabia and Iran]”, Shah was quoted as saying.

Qureshi stated that Pakistan would play ‘responsible role’ in Yemen dispute and would continue to play role of mediator to diffuse tensions.

“There exists curiosity [among stakeholders] on China’s visit. We departed to China with four-point agenda and came back with positive developments”, Shah told upper house of the parliament.
