In addition to wishing Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus well on his swearing as chief advisor to the interim government on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated on Friday that he aimed to “deepen cooperation” between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Following fierce demonstrations by a student-led movement that prompted former prime leader Sheikh Hasina to quit and leave the nation earlier this week, Yunus was named to head the country’s interim administration.
Over 400 people tragically lost their lives as a result of the protests, the majority of them were young students.
“Heartiest felicitations to Professor Muhammad Yunus on his swearing-in as Chief Adviser of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” wrote 72-year-old Sharif on X.
