Lahore: Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president and chief organizer of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has made it clear that she has no interest in becoming the country’s prime minister or chief minister following the upcoming general elections. She firmly stated, “My focus is not on the slot of prime minister or chief minister,” during a casual conversation with journalists on Sunday. The PML-N stalwart added that her son Junaid had no immediate plans to enter politics. She added lightheartedly, “Junaid has to take responsibility for his home first. A graduate of Cambridge University, Junaid Safdar holds two master’s degrees and two bachelor’s degrees from UK institutions. In August 2021, a polo fan got married in London.

According to Maryam, “performance” is the cornerstone of her party’s identity and strength. The PML-N leader said she was taken aback by the fervor and number of people who greeted her upon her return to the homeland in response to a question about the general reaction. She spent time with her father and party leader Nawaz Sharif while living in London since October 2022 before returning to Pakistan in the final week of January. She continued, “The response exceeded my expectations.

“Good governance is the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif’s focus.” She also asserted that the coalition government could not ignore the rising inflation. She stated in response to a query that the PML-N would hold open rallies close to the upcoming elections. “Nawaz Sharif himself planned the entire program for the Tanzeemi (organizing) Convention.” Maryam stated during her speech that the PML-N’ssocialmedia arm worked on a volunteer basis. Even true accusations are difficult for us to repeat, she continued. She claimed that the PTI hired keyboard warriors at the expense of the government. She added that their rivals were extremely rude. In order to combat the disinformation of, Maryam also declared that her party is setting up its own IT wing to counter the propaganda of their opponents.

The PML-N leader addressed Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as her “elder brother” and claimed that he was not upset with the party because it was widely discussed why Abbasi left the position of senior vice-president and chief organizer so soon after Maryam was elected to those positions. She continued by saying that Abbasi wanted to advance the party’s youth. “Abbasi and my father have a relationship that dates back more than 30 years,” Maryam said, adding that she would pay Abbasi a visit. The PML-N leader also stated that she preferred to work directly under her superiors.

In response to a query, Maryam Nawaz stated that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which is currently in power, was not an “electoral alliance.” For now, it cannot be referred to as an electoral alliance, she added. The PML-N leader declared that “her mission” is to grow her party across the nation, including in Karachi and Sindh. Finding the best candidates for the upcoming elections is one of her visits’ goals, the woman added. The PML-N senior vice-president further refrained from commenting on her husband, Captain (retd) Safdar,’srecent“controversial” statement, stating that it was his “personal opinion.” A day earlier, Safdar criticized the PML-N for voting to extend the term offormer COAS Gen. (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming that this action violated the party’s historical narrative of vote ko Izzat do.

He had said, “The party’s narrative of respecting the public mandate (vote ko izzat do) was very strong earlier, but we dishonoured it the day we voted to extend General Bajwa’s term as army chief.

Maryam declared that she would not comment on Safdar’s assertion. She continued by predicting that PML-N leader and three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been living in self-imposed exile in London due to health issues since 2019, would be among them soon. She continued, “Nawaz Sharif practices politics of principles and pays the price for it.
