PM interacts with world leaders at COP29 summit

During the opening plenary of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), known as the “World Leaders’ Climate Action Summit,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged with world leaders on Tuesday.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warmly met the prime minister as he arrived at the summit location, according to a PM Office news statement.

In addition to talking about topics of mutual interest, Prime Minister Shehbaz engaged in casual conversation with the participating leaders as they gathered for a family photo.

He spoke with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the United Arab Emirates, about issues of shared interest, such as bilateral collaboration on climate change.

Speaking with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan, the two parties talked about how they may work together to draw attention to environmental pollution and climate change on a global scale.

PM Shehbaz and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer discussed how to advance the Pakistan-UK partnership in their casual conversation.

He also met with Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, where they talked about preserving Pakistan’s and Central Asia’s glaciers and water resources while also enhancing connectivity with both nations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also spoke with Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of Bangladesh, and Ram Chandra Poudel, the president of Nepal, about the problem of rising temperatures in South Asia.
