On Wednesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to devise a plan for the gasification of Thar coal. He also asked for a particular emphasis on the promotion of alternative energy, specifically solar energy.
He remarked that Thar coal was important to meet Pakistan’s energy demands while presiding over a conference to discuss issues pertaining to the Petroleum Division. He also gave instructions to take action to move Thar coal to other regions of the nation via the rail network.
The briefing emphasised that Pakistan, although having one of the lowest carbon footprints among the five most vulnerable nations, was taking steps to lessen the effects of climate change by promoting items that use alternative energy sources.
