On Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that the federal government and all province governments were fully committed to controlling the spread of polio through coordinated measures and that they had resolved to eradicate the disease permanently.
Speaking at a National Task Force on Polio Eradication meeting, the prime minister stated that although things had taken a turn for the worse and the virus had returned to some areas of Pakistan, it did not indicate that their efforts had failed. The polio eradication campaign in the nation was moving forward favourably and they were getting close to eliminating the disease.
At the meeting were ministers, top officials, appropriate authorities, and Bill Gates, the chairman of the Gates Foundation.
