Tuesday’s National Export Development Board meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who assigned the relevant authorities the job of increasing the nation’s yearly exports to $60 billion in three years.The prime minister instructed the ministry of commerce and other pertinent agencies to take all necessary steps to meet the stated goal.According to him, the nation’s exports in the preceding fiscal year exceeded $30 billion, and the policies implemented by the government also resulted in IT exports surpassing $3.2 billion.The ministry was urged by the prime minister to address the concerns raised by the exporters and submit a report in a fortnight. Every 1.5 months, he promised to personally chair the National Export Development Board meeting.
He praised investors and the business community for their contributions to the country’s growth and called for concerted efforts to increase exports in spite of difficult circumstances.The commerce ministry was tasked by Prime Minister Shehbaz to complete the policy recommendations in consultation with representatives of the possible export industries. In order to increase agricultural exports, he also gave the Ministry of National Food Security the mission of enhancing extension services in cooperation with the provinces.He gave the go-ahead to export high-quality seeds and agricultural products following additional processing and after introducing crop varieties with high yields.He stated that by quickly resolving the issues associated with export shipping, the time it takes for Pakistani commodities to reach Europe and America should be shortened.
