The comprehensive findings of the 7th Population and Housing Census of 2023 have been made public by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The country’s overall population, as reported by the Census, is 241.49 million, with 51.48 percent of males and 48.51 percent of females, or a gender ratio of 106.12.
In Pakistan, there are 6.30 family members on average, and 96 percent of the population practices Islam, making it the majority religion.
According to age-based population counts, there are 36.47 million people under five, 97.53 million people under 15, 62.58 million people between 15 and 29, and 190.27 million people under 40.
According to literacy indices, 61% of Pakistanis who are ten years of age or older are literate.
The country’s population will quadruple by 2050 if the present 2.55 percent population growth rate—the highest in the region—continues, according to census figures.
Citizens’ level of living and per capita income are being negatively impacted by population expansion. To improve resource allocation and promote economic success, a population control policy that works must be developed.
Speaking at the inaugural event in Islamabad today as the chief guest, Ahsan Iqbal stated that technology has been used to guarantee transparency in the nation’s first-ever digital census.
He praised the field employees, PBS, SUPARCO, security forces, and field personnel for the first digital population and housing census’s successful completion.
