Shazia Marri, the federal minister for poverty alleviation and social safety, stated on Wednesday that the 18th Constitutional Amendment, which was promulgated on April 19, 2010, marked the end of the third consecutive term of the Parliament. She declared in a statement that the day former president Asif Ali Zardari ceded his powers to the Parliament to advance the nation’s democracy was historic.
The minister claimed that during the PPP’s rule, the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan also received recognition. She added that the Constitution (Eighteenth Amendment) Act, 2010, was an agreement between the Federation and its units, and that the former president had strengthened the provinces by granting them autonomy.
Empowering the Parliament would end outside interference in its domain, she added.
