Pakistan committed to human rights obligations: FO

Pakistan is totally dedicated to meeting all of its international human rights duties, according to Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch.
She remarked that Pakistan’s legal system complies with international human rights law, particularly the articles of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, in answer to a question about remarks made about recent rulings by military courts. It provides for the promotion and defense of fundamental freedoms and human rights, as well as judicial review remedies by higher courts.

According to the spokesperson, decisions were rendered in accordance with a statute passed by Pakistan’s Parliament and in accordance with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
According to her, Pakistan supports fruitful and constructive discourse in order to advance democratic, human rights, and legal norms.
