Pakistan has urged for international cooperation and a proactive approach to preserve the world’s glacial zones, according to Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Madad Ali Sindhi on Friday. As per a press statement received here yesterday, Putin called attention to the “Third Pole”—which includes the Himalayas, Karakoram, and Hindukush (HKH) region—while addressing the “One Planet – Polar Summit”. This region is home to the biggest cyrospheric deposits on Earth outside of the polar region. According to him, there are more than 7,000 glaciers in Pakistan alone in the HKH ranges, which encompass over 15,000 square kilometres. The minister emphasised that while Third Pole was the world’s largest reservoir and vital to the supply of freshwater to around 2 billion people, the HKH region was especially vulnerable to climate change.
