Senior PPP politician Sherry Rehman has said that the results of the Lahore election, in which party leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari lost to Attaullah Tarar of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), were rigged. According to the unverified and unofficial results, Tarar received 98,210 votes in NA-127, while PPP’s Bilawal received 15,005 votes, placing him in third place. Rehman claimed that although Bilawal was ahead in the polls, the results were suddenly altered at a news conference on Friday in Lahore. She claimed that the election was rigged by delaying the results. Rehman also bemoaned the fact that on election day, internet and cellphone connections were unavailable, which made it difficult for candidates and voters to participate in the election. Just one day before Pakistan’s general elections, two separate bombings in Balochistan targeted political candidates, resulting in at least 28 fatalities and over 40 injuries on Wednesday. In the first incident, an explosion outside the office of an independent candidate in Pishin, Balochistan, killed at least 15 lives and injured over 30, while the second explosion happened outside the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) office in the Killa Saifullah area. The Pishin explosion happened in the Khanozai neighbourhood near the political office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar. In the elections scheduled for February 8, Kakar is running from the NA-265 seat as well as the PB-47 and PB-48 Balochistan Assembly seats. The injured have been moved to Khanozai’s Tehsil Hospital.
