ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties’ huddle in the federal capital to chalk out a strategy against the government has dubbed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, especially Prime Minister Imran Khan, a “huge threat to national security”.

In a joint declaration at the end of the All Parties Conference (APC), the moot declared that the PTI’s governance has become a threat to national integrity, sovereignty and interests.

The declaration said that the poor were suffering because of the disastrous policies of the government. The prevalent political scenario is paving the way for a violent revolution, it warned.

The opposition parties declared that the PTI government is fulfilling the interests of foreign elements, and has become a huge security risk.

The decision to hold the much-awaited moot hosted by was made during an Iftar-dinner hosted by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman last month.

The APC was attended by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, Vice President Maryam Nawaz, Senior VP Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, senior leaders Ayaz Sadiq and Raja Zafarul Haq; Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Sherry Rehman, Raza Rabbani, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Farhatullah Babar from the PPP; Asfandyar Wali Khan, Mian Iftikhar and Ameer Haider Khan Hoti of the Awami National Party; National Party President Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo; Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai; and Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, among others.

Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) President Akhtar Mengal said he won’t be able to attend the all-party moot.

In a written message sent to Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Mengal asked the opposition to consider his party’s recommendations. He called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in the day, instead.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif urged the opposition to unite for the sake of the nation that is “reeling under the “anti-people budget” which should be shot down.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz said the national economy was in an “abject” shape and the people were looking towards the opposition for relief. “Our fight is not with [Prime Minister] Imran Khan but with those who selected him,” she was quoted as saying by sources close to the meeting.

Fazl, who has taken a tough stance against the government from day one, advised all parliamentarians to resign from parliament, which didn’t receive a warm response from the PML-N and PPP delegations.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani’s ouster also came under discussion, when ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan suggested that Sanjrani should be replaced in order to earn the nation’s trust for the opposition, said reports.

An 11-member committee was formed to formulate the joint statement of the MPC after taking into consideration all recommendations.

Prior to the MPC, the parliamentary parties of the opposition held a separate meeting inside the National Assembly to formulate their strategy for the budget session.

Earlier, Maryam met her uncle Shehbaz Sharif at the Ministers Enclave to discuss matters related to the opposition moot.

Speaking to reporters in the parliament, Shehbaz said the opposition would make every effort to make the MPC called by Maulana Fazl a success.
