The lower house secretariat stated in a statement on Tuesday that Omar Ayub, a pillar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been designated as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.
After the proper procedure for selecting the opposition leader was completed, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq named Ayub as the leader of the opposition.
After Ayub called on the former, the NA speaker approved his request.
Gohar Ali Khan and Malik Amir Dogar, two opposition members, were also present at the meeting where opinions on the nomination of the opposition leader were discussed.
“Omar Ayub is declared the Leader of Opposition by the Speaker of the National Assembly following the conclusion of the scrutiny process in accordance with Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of NA,” the NA secretariat tweeted.
