Earlier this year in June, Asma Hamid was appointed as the first ever female Advocate General Punjab. She represented Government of Punjab in multiple cases in Supreme Court before CJP Saqib Nisar.
Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhary’s brother, Chaudhary Faisal Hussain Farid, was appointed as new additional advocate general Punjab on Saturday.
A notification issued in this regard stated that 18 people have been appointed as additional advocate general Punjab.
Chaudhry Faisal Hussain Farid has in the past represented former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in the treason case against him.
Meanwhile, in June this year, the caretaker government removed first female advocate general Asma Hamid following the objection of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and now demolishing all the merit standards, PTI itself has appointed brother of a minister on such an important post.
Criticising the decision, one social media user wrote: “That is how we are moving towards from Purana Pakistan to Naya Pakistan. Asma Hamid, a Harvard graduate, who has represented the state in many cases for years, was appointed as AG Punjab but was removed to only accommodate such relatives of PTI Walas. Shameful.”
She has represented the Province and Government of Punjab in the Lahore High Court and its Benches in Punjab, Islamabad High Court, Federal Shariat Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. She has provided advice to the Chief Minister of Punjab on an extensive range of policy matters including energy, education, health, criminal matters, prosecution reforms, security, State land resumption, agricultural laws reforms and service matters.
Ms. Hamid regularly advises clients in corporate and commercial laws comprising reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts, general advice, opinions, due diligence, structuring and leading complex and high-value transactions. She has carried out extensive work in the areas of public and private sector projects, contracts, joint ventures, banking and finance laws, capital markets and securities laws, foreign investment, insurance laws, construction, and real estate laws, employment and labour laws, energy, water, and environmental laws.
Hamid has completed her Law Degree from Harvard University with specialization in Constitutional Law.
