The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) have made the significant political decision to begin seat adjustment in advance of the general elections that are scheduled for February 8 of the following year. The development occurs as PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, after an almost 15-year hiatus, visited PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s home in Lahore on Wednesday, according to reports. According to the sources, the two parties decided to form separate committees to finalise details about the potential formation of an electoral alliance during the approximately 40-minute meeting.
The party chief was accompanied by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif as well as other prominent figures such as Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, and Azam Nazeer Tarar. The conference was also attended by leaders of the PML-Q, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Shafay Hussain. According to the sources, seat adjustments for two National Assembly and three Punjab Assembly constituencies have been agreed upon by the two parties. The PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema’s and Salik’s constituencies will see seat adjustments, according to their statement. According to the reports, Shafay’s provincial assembly constituency is included in the electoral pact. Nawaz also asked about the well-being of veteran politician Shujaat, the nation’s previous prime minister, during the meeting. But after the meeting, no formal statement was released.
