The prime ministerial candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, declared on Friday that his party “emerged victorious” in the general election held on February 8 and that he aims to establish a united government. “Today, I have assigned Shehbaz Sharif the task of meeting Fazlur Rehman, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Asif Ali Zardari,” Nawaz declared to an agitated assembly gathered in Model Town, Lahore, to deliver his “victory speech.” But as the results come in, the PML-N is lagging behind the candidates supported by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who are in the lead with over 90 seats. On the other hand, the party’s senior brass declared that their candidates have secured a majority of the seats and will establish a center-left government.
