The leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and a former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, has stepped up his demands to hold those accountable who overthrew him in 2017 and are to blame for Pakistan’s “destruction.” In Lahore on Friday, he made this statement while speaking at the party’s parliamentary board meeting, which was being attended by Vice President Maryam Nawaz, President Shehbaz Sharif of the PML-N, and other dignitaries. Regarding the corruption charges brought against him and his relatives, Nawaz stated that those who filed “bogus cases” must to face consequences. The PML-N chief declared, “After seven years, I am receiving justice. Our party leaders were imprisoned in false cases.”
He was making reference to the graft cases that were filed after the infamous Panama Papers leaks, against him and his family members. The Supreme Court permanently barred him from office as prime minister for failing to disclose a salary that was receivable, and they also ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to gather evidence against him. In 2018, he was sentenced by the accountability courts in the Avenfield and Al-Aziza referrals. But last month, the IHC reversed his conviction in the Avenfield reference, and the court is still considering his appeal in the Al-Azizia reference. In his speech today, Nawaz stated that they wished to serve the country, but he also insisted on holding those responsible for the alleged victimisation of PML-N officials accountable.
