The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) obtained 14-day physical remand

LAHORE: Former prime minister(PML-N) founder Nawaz Sharif was handed over to the National Accountability Bureau on 14-day physical remand in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

NAB has accused Nawaz of being a direct beneficiary of CSM and his daughter, Maryam — who was arrested in connection with the case in August along with her cousin Yousuf Abbas — of holding over 12 million shares in the sugar mills.

Sharif had been arrested earlier in the day by NAB from Kot Lakhpat jail and presented before an accountability court in Lahore.

Speaking to media outside the accountability court before his appearance, Nawaz said he he fully supports JUI-F’s Azadi March.

Nawaz said he appreciated Fazl’s spirit and fully supported him. “We consider Fazl’s position as our own and support it. If Maulana is protesting, then that is fine.”

The court ordered the accountability bureau to present Nawaz on October 25.

Strict security measures have been put in place, with routes leading to the accountability court being closed ahead of the PML-N leader’s appearance.
