Nation salutes martyrs of Gayari Sector Tragedy

On April 7, 2012, a massive avalanche struck an army unit in the Siachen Glacier, resulting in the sad loss of soldiers. On Sunday, the nation honoured the martyrs of the Gayari Sector disaster on its 12th anniversary.

An avalanche slammed the military unit, killing 129 personnel, and entirely demolished the Northern Light Infantry (NLI) battalion headquarters. No one there could be saved alive, according to a news release from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The Pakistan Army, particularly the Engineers Corps, performed the job with extraordinary bravery and heroism, despite the declarations of the foreign rescue teams that this was an impossible task.
